Countryfile - Tom Heap discovers a problem with using green waste as fertiliser.

Countryfile Feature,

bbc 1 24-5-15 - 7pm, - it was great to see that countryfile have acknowledged the harm that green waste is having on the environment - however i feel they do not know the true extent - it seems the environment agency think these are odd cases of private composters, which they are not.

Its not just the household waste that poses the problem but all the commercial waste including council wasted from home renovations.

Please look through the back posts of this blog to see the environmental problem we face.

If you have found an issue with Green waste please do write to - bbc.co.uk/countryfile as requested.

------

Thank you to all at countryfile and to those that have pushed for the issue of contaminated green waste, please continue the great work or all our farmland will be contaminated forever.

  2. We had a load of green waste compost delivered to our allotments. I used it to mulch around fruit trees and along paths. Unfortunately it was full of pieces of plastic and weeks later 3 of my 4 fruit trees were dead. Perhaps the compost wasn't decomposed enough? But it appeared more like the trees were poisoned. You can't possibly know what's in this stuff, some people dispose of all sorts in their bins including pesticides.
